  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp ube extract
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 package instant dry yeast
  • ⅓ cup ube halaya jam
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ⅓ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ⅔ cup confectioners' sugar

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk slightly and mix with yeast in a stand mixer bowl; let sit for a few minutes.
  2. Add egg, softened butter, and sugar; mix well.
  3. Incorporate salt and flour, then knead with a dough hook until slightly sticky (5–7 minutes).
  4. Transfer to an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes until doubled.
  5. Prepare the filling by mixing softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and ube halaya jam until smooth.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle (15×12 inches), spread the filling evenly, and roll tightly into a log.
  7. Cut into nine equal pieces and place in a greased baking pan; allow to rise again for another 30 minutes.
  8. Pour heavy cream over the rolls before baking at 350°F for about 21–23 minutes.
  9. Prepare cream cheese frosting while baking: blend softened butter and cream cheese with vanilla extract and confectioners’ sugar until smooth.
  10. Frost warm rolls after cooling slightly.
