Green Chile Picadillo is a flavorful, savory dish made with ground meat, tender vegetables, and roasted green chiles. Perfect served over rice, in tacos, or with warm tortillas, it’s a comforting and versatile meal with a mild kick.

Ingredients

For the Base
1 lb ground beef (or substitute ground turkey)
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced

For the Vegetables
2–3 green chiles (Hatch or poblano, roasted, peeled, and chopped)
2 medium tomatoes, diced
1 large potato, peeled and diced
½ cup peas (optional)

For Flavoring
½ teaspoon ground cumin
½ teaspoon ground coriander
½ teaspoon dried oregano
Salt and pepper, to taste

For Cooking
2 tablespoons olive oil
¼ cup beef broth or water

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and garlic, cooking until soft and fragrant, about 3–4 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef (or turkey) and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
  • Stir in the cumin, coriander, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  • Add the roasted, chopped green chiles, diced tomatoes, diced potato, and peas (if using).
  • Pour in the beef broth or water, cover, and simmer for 20–25 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the flavors are well combined.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste and serve hot over rice, with tortillas, or as a filling for tacos or empanadas.
