  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for browning)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 2 Tbsp pure maple syrup (for icing)
  • 12 Tbsp milk (as needed for consistency)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • flaky sea salt or chopped toasted pecans (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, sea salt, and cinnamon; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add maple syrup, egg, and vanilla to the creamed mixture; mix until just combined.
  5. Gradually incorporate dry ingredients until dough is soft but not overmixed. Chill for at least one hour.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them two inches apart.
  7. Bake for about 10–12 minutes until edges are golden but centers are slightly set.
  8. For icing, brown remaining butter in a saucepan; whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until smooth.
  9. Dip cooled cookies in icing and sprinkle with flaky salt or pecans before letting them set.
