  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Toss in the beef strips and marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until soft and caramelized. Season with salt and pepper, then set aside.
  3. Increase heat to high and add the remaining vegetable oil to the skillet. Stir-fry the marinated beef for about 2-3 minutes until browned.
  4. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch until smooth. Pour this mixture over the beef and let simmer until thickened.
  5. Combine the sautéed onions back into the pan with the beef mixture. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
