Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups water
  • 1 ½ cups pure maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract (alcohol-free)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 ½ tablespoons cold butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°F (82°C) to keep the dumplings warm once cooked.
  2. In a large pot, combine water, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. In a food processor, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt briefly. Add cold butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse meal.

  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough into the boiling sauce. Cover and simmer on low for about 10 minutes until cooked through.
  6. Once done, transfer dumplings to an oven-safe dish to keep warm while you repeat with remaining dough.
