  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 cups oats (quick cooking or old fashioned)
  • 4 T milk
  • 2 C powdered sugar (sifted)
  • water (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together shortening, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in water and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, mix flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon; gradually stir into the creamed mixture.
  5. Fold in oats until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto greased baking sheets using a cookie scoop.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until golden brown; let cool on the baking sheets for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. For icing, mix milk and powdered sugar together, adjusting with water to reach desired consistency.
  9. Dip the tops of cooled cookies into the glaze and let excess drip off before serving.
