  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 large egg (or 1 tbsp flaxseed meal + 3 tbsp water for vegan option)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 burger buns

Instructions

  1. Drain and rinse black beans until the water runs clear.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté chopped onions in oil for about 3 minutes; add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. In a mixing bowl, mash black beans with a fork until chunky but mostly broken down; mix in sautéed onions and garlic.
  4. Stir in breadcrumbs, egg (or flaxseed mixture), cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  5. Shape the mixture into four evenly sized patties.
  6. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat; cook each patty for about 4–5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
