  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (cold and cut into pieces)
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, mix blackberries, sugar, water, lemon juice, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Heat until boiling and then reduce heat to simmer.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and sugar. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla until just combined.
  3. Drop spoonfuls of dumpling dough into the simmering sauce. Cover and cook for about 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
