  • 2 tablespoons oil (vegetable or mustard oil)
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 1.5 lbs beef chuck, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 large tomato, pureed
  • 1 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the spice mix by combining all spices in a bowl and set aside.
  2. In a large deep pan, heat oil over medium heat and sauté onions until golden brown.
  3. Add garlic and ginger; cook until fragrant.
  4. Increase heat and brown the beef pieces for about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Add in the spice mix, ensuring the beef is well-coated.
  6. Stir in pureed tomato, salt, black pepper, and vinegar; cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Pour in broth/water; bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 60-75 minutes.
